  1. Purdue School of Pharmacy Distinguished Alumnus, Charles A. Walton (MS 1950, PhD 1956) was a founding member of the American College of Clinical Pharmacy.

  3. C. B. Jordan served as the Dean of the Pharmacy School for 31 years (1910-1941) which is longer than any other Dean of the School.

The American Pharmacist Association established the Remington Honor Medal in 1918 to recognize distinguished service on behalf of American pharmacy during the preceding years, culminating in the past year, or during a long period of outstanding activity or fruitful achievement. Purdue Pharmacy alumni Lloyd M. Parks (BS,PhC 1933, MS 1938, HDR 1962), Gloria N. Francke (BS 1942, HDR 1988), and James T. Doluisio (PhD 1962, HDR 1995) as well as Purdue Pharmacy Honorary Doctorates Josiah K. Lilly (1939), Glenn L. Jenkins (1976) and Donald E. Francke (1951) have won this prestigious award.
  39. The Hugo H. Schaefer Award was established in 1964 to recognize APhA members who have made outstanding voluntary contributions to society, the profession of pharmacy, and APhA. Dr. Arthur G. Zupko, Ph.D. 1949, is the only Purdue Pharmacy alumni to win this award.
  40. Three Purdue Pharmacy alumni have won the Hubert H. Humphrey Award which honors APhA members who have made major contributions in government and/or legislative service at the local, state, or national level since it was established in 1978.
  41. Eleven Purdue Pharmacy alumni have been recognized as Fellow of the American Pharmacists Association Academy of Pharmacy Practice and Management.

In 1975, Bruce Carlstedt became the first School of Pharmacy faculty member placed at Regenstrief Institute at the Indiana University Medical Center in Indianapolis to develop clerkship opportunities with the ambulatory medicine clinics at Wishard Memorial Hospital and the Family Practice Clinic at Indiana University School of Medicine.
  58. Currently, the School has 24 faculty, five secretarial and support positions in Indianapolis, as well as post-doctoral and graduate students in Indianapolis.
  59. The first academic Nuclear Pharmacy certificate program was developed and offered at Purdue beginning in 1988. It allowed practicing pharmacist to obtain the knowledge and skills to enter nuclear pharmacy practice.

  80. The first women to graduate from the School of Pharmacy were Nina B. Hart and Love Caulkins and they graduated in 1892.

  86. Pharmacy alumnus Matt Waddell, BS 1996, is one of forty-two Purdue Men's Basketball players to score over 1,000 points in their career at Purdue.
  87. Pharmacy alumnae Corissa Yasen, BS 1998, holds the Purdue Record for the Women's High Jump of 6' 3.5".
  88. Dolores Cooper Shockley, MS 1953, PhD 1955, is the first African American woman to earn a Ph.D. from Purdue University and the first African American woman in the United States to receive a Ph.D. in pharmacology.
  89. Warren Moore, PharmD 2002, played on the 2000 Purdue Football Team that earned a Big Ten Conference Championship and Rose Bowl berth.
  90. Pharmacy alumnus Robert Anderson, BS 1957, served as President of the Purdue Alumni Association from 1993-1995.
  91. Student expenses in the first year of Pharmacy School (1884-85) included a Matriculation fee of $10, an incidental fee of $8, a fee of $10 for Chemicals and a lab deposit of $10. Instruction was free.
  92. Chase Wood of Winamac, Indiana was the first to graduate from the School of Pharmacy with a Bachelor's of Pharmacy.
  93. In 1886, our first graduating class consisted of seven men. One went on to work as a Chemist for Eli Lilly, & Co., one became a Pharmacy proprietor, one went on the practice law and the others took positions as pharmacy clerks.
  94. Edwin J. Mowry from Oskaloosa, Iowa was the first out of state student to enroll in the School of Pharmacy at Purdue.
  95. In 1893-94, the School of Pharmacy celebrated its tenth anniversary and had 85 students enrolled, compared to the seven students in 1884-85.
  96. In 1893-94, the School of Pharmacy already had over 100 graduates.
  97. Alonzo D. McDonell from Ottawa, Ontario, was the first international student enrolled in the School.
  98. In 1909-10 when the school was 25 years old, the school expenses for a student were approximately $45 dollars a year. There was a $5 diploma fee charge when a student was to graduate.
  99. Purdue Pharmacy Christian Student Association (PPCSA) became an official organization of Purdue University in the year 2002 with 5 members. Membership has grown to about 20 students now.
  100. Jean Ann Neese was the first President of the Purdue Pharmacy Christian Student Association. Other past presidents include Erica Uitto, Jessica Larva and Cory Smith. Creighton Kaiser is the current president of PPCSA.
  101. The purpose of the Purdue Pharmacy Christian Student Association is to meet weekly to read the Bible and discuss how Christian principles affect the practice of Pharmacy as well as our lives as citizens and as members of our communities. PPCSA invites practicing pharmacists who have gone on Medical Missions to foreign countries (China, Guatemala, and Ecuador etc) to share their experiences with other students once or twice each year.
  102. Charles B. Jordan was the first Purdue Pharmacy Dean to become President of the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy in 1918-19. Glenn L. Jenkins, Varro E. Tyler, and Chalres O. Rutledge have also served as President of AACP.
  103. Seventeen Purdue Pharmacy Alumni, Faculty or Former Faculty have served as President of the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy with the most recent being Marilyn K. Speedie, BS 1970, PhD 1973, in 2006-07.
  104. Former Faculty and Honorary Doctorate, Heinz G. Floss was the first Purdue faculty member to be awarded the Volwiler Research Achievement Award from AACP.
  105. Two Purdue Pharmacy Alumni, David A. Knapp, BS 1960, MS 1962, Ph.D. 1965 and Laurence H. Hurley, Ph.D. 1970, have been awarded the Volwiler Research Achievement Award from AACP.
  106. The American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy began awarding the Paul R. Dawson Biotechnology Award in 1993 and since that time two Purdue Pharmacy alumni, Marilyn K. Speedie, BS 1970, PhD 1973 and Laurence H. Hurley, Ph.D. 1970, have received this award.
  107. The Rufus A. Lyman Award is presented annually by AACP to the author(s) of the best paper, which appears in the American Journal of Pharmaceutical Education. Since 1969 when the first Lyman Award was awarded, fourteen Purdue Pharmacy Alumni and Faculty have received this award.
  108. Former Purdue Pharmacy Professor Nicholas G. Popovich has been awarded the Lyman Award by AACP five times.
  109. The Seed for Success Award was established in 2003 by the provost and vice president for research and recognizes faculty members who attract large sponsored research grants in excess of $1 million to Purdue University. Karen S. Hudmon and Alan J. Zillich, of the Pharmacy Practice department were 2008 award winners.
  110. The Charles B. Murphy Outstanding Undergraduate Teaching Award, Purdue University's highest undergraduate teaching honor, has been awarded to seven Pharmacy faculty members since 1966. Robert K. Chalmers was the first Pharmacy faculty member to win this award.
  111. Alice H. Hayden received the first PhD in Pharmaceutical Chemistry from Purdue University in 1932.
  112. Hubert W. Murphy received the first PhD in Pharmacognosy in 1942 under the guidance of Glenn L. Jenkins.
  113. John W. Nelson received the first PhD in Pharmacology in 1945 from Purdue University.
  114. In the fiscal year 2007-08, the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences was awarded $12,548, 487 in research funding through grants, contracts, voluntary support and fellowships.
  115. In 2007 through a generous gift of Hamid A. Abbaspour, BS 1985, the Dr. Aziz Outstanding Teacher of the Year Award was established to recognize the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences Outstanding Teacher of the Year. Eric L. Barker, Kimberly S. Plake and Kevin M. Sowinski have been the three faculty members awarded the Dr. Aziz award.
  116. The Professor Henry Heine Award was presented annually from 1971 to 2006 to an outstanding teacher in the Purdue University School of Pharmacy. Award winners were selected by the student body for excellence in teaching. Stanley L. Hem and Nicholas G. Popovich received this award five times each.
  117. Six School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences graduate students currently have fellowships.
  118. The 2008 Kienly Award recipients were: Ryan J. McCann, Industrial and Physical Pharmacy; Lori M. Ward, Pharmacy Practice; and Kristy J. Wilson, Medicinal Chemistry and Molecular Pharmacology. The Kienly Awards have been endowed since 1976 in memory of Dr. Albert V. Kienly's father and mother and recognize graduate students who excel in teaching.
  119. The 2008 recipients of the Jenkins-Knevel Awards were: Lisa Bonner, Medicinal Chemistry and Molecular Pharmacology, Fang Liu, also from Medicinal Chemistry and Molecular, and Michelle K. Papp, Industrial and Physical Pharmacy. The Jenkins-Knevel Awards are given in honor of Dr. Glenn Jenkins and Dr. Adelbert M. Knevel for outstanding graduate research.
  120. Dean Charles Rutledge started the Minority Advocacy Council. Original members of the Council included Otha Bright, BS 1989, Georgina Jones, BS 1969, MS 1974, Paul Jones, BS 1968, Cresinda Martin, BS 1989, Loraine Owolabi, BS 1984, Virgil Rowley, BSIM 1973, Charles Sanders, BS 1978, Sarah Sanders, BS 1978, PharmD 1980, Georgia Thomas-Sanders, BS 1979, and Bryan Woodfork, BS 1980.
  121. The School of Pharmacy Multicultural Programs academic retention initiatives were in place beginning with the 1993-1994 academic year. The retention of entering underrepresented minority students who participate in Multicultural programs retention is greater than 93% and for most years, equals 100% after one year.
  122. Pharmacy alumni, Warren Moore, PharmD 2002, and R'Kes Starling, BS 2002 were both members of the 2000 Big Ten Champion and Rose Bowl Purdue Boilermaker football team.
  123. Four hundred seventy eight Purdue Pharmacy alumni have been members of the Purdue Bands.
  124. The School of Pharmacy student organizations hosted the first annual Pharmacy Spring Fling on April 12, 2003. Spring Fling is a school-wide event sponsored by all pharmacy student organizations that provides a carnival type atmosphere with games and prizes, entertainment, a disc jockey, and food for the community, students, faculty, staff and their families.
  125. Dr. Elizabeth Topp is the first woman to serve as Department Head in the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. She began her duties as head of Industrial and Physical Pharmacy on July 1, 2009.
