Volunteer Opportunities: Industrial Advisory Council

Industrial Advisory Council:   Main | Current Members | Minutes

Purpose

To advise the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences on em

erging trends in health care, especially as they relate to the pharmaceutical industry, and to assist the school in developing the resources needed to keep it on the cutting edge of pharmaceutical research and education.

Membership

The council consists of 15 to 25 members broadly representing all aspects of the pharmaceutical industry and our departmental disciplines.

Membership is at the invitation of the dean.

It is desirable to have some non-alumni members.

Company representation is generally limited to one member per company, unless significantly different roles are represented, in which case two individuals may serve.

The term of office is 3 years with one reappointment possible.

Structure and Work

The work of the council focuses on national health care issues, how they impact the pharmaceutical industry, and the role Purdue should play.

Meetings are structured somewhat like a think tank. There is usually ample opportunity to contribute personal perspectives.

Council members are asked from time to time to identify possible financial resources for specific projects and to be an advocate on behalf of the school.

Meetings are designed to facilitate interaction with faculty.

Meetings

The council meets twice a year in the spring and fall.

Meetings are generally held at Purdue on the West Lafayette Campus.

Meetings are held on Friday and start at 9 AM and adjourn by 4:30 PM.

The fall meeting is generally held the day before the homecoming football game. Each council member (and spouse or guest) is invited to be the guest of the Dean for the football game and other activities as appropriate.

Financial Considerations

The School of Pharmacy does not reimburse members for incurred expenses of travel, lodging, or meals. Lunch is provided the day of the meeting.

Council members are asked to contribute in an exemplary manner to the School of Pharmacy annual fund.
