Volunteer Opportunities: Professional Advisory CouncilPurposeTo advise the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences on emerging trends in pharmacy practice and to assist the school by providing leadership and developing resources to promote and implement progressive pharmacy practice. MembershipThe council consists of 15 to 25 members, most being directly involved in the practice of pharmacy. Membership is at the invitation of the dean. It is desirable to have some non-alumni members. Membership broadly represents all areas of pharmacy practice including community chain, independents, hospital, long-term care, nuclear pharmacy, pharmaceutical industry, and education. Company representation is generally limited to one member per company, unless significantly different practice roles are represented, in which case two individuals may serve. The normal term of office is 3 years with one reappointment possible. Structure and WorkThe work of the council focuses on pharmacy practice with an emphasis on the State of Indiana and the role of Purdue. Meetings are structured somewhat like a "think tank". There is usually ample opportunity to contribute personal perspectives. MeetingsThe council meets twice a year in the spring and fall. Meetings are generally held at Purdue. Meetings are usually on Friday and start at 9 AM and adjourn by 4:30 PM The fall meeting is generally the day before a home football game. Each council member (and spouse or guest) is invited to be the guest of the Dean for the football game and other activities as appropriate. Financial ConsiderationsThe School of Pharmacy does not reimburse members for incurred expenses of travel, lodging, or meals. Lunch will be provided the day of the meeting. Council members are asked to contribute in an exemplary manner to the School of Pharmacy annual fund. |
