Annual BoileRx Golf Classic - May 19, 2005
| It was a dark and stormy night ... That's how it looked the night before the 9th Annual BoileRx Golf Outing on Thursday, May 19, 2005. The skies over north central Indiana were full of ominous clouds, which were sending down huge amounts of rain, along with the dreaded thunder and lightning of which canceled golf outings are made. As late as 8:30 that morning, it was still storming. But hearty souls began to trek out to the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex around 10:30, and the more who arrived, the clearer the skies became. A quick box lunch in the Voinoff Pavilion preceded the 12:00 noon shotgun start. A total of 135 loyal School of Pharmacy alumni, faculty and friends set out under mostly sunny skies to have a fabulous eighteen holes of golf on what turned out to be a beautiful day, capped off by a great dinner back at the Pavilion and the awarding of prizes and congratulating of participants. Preliminary figures show that this year's BoileRx raised nearly $18,000 for Pharmacy Scholarships, including revenue from the first ever BoileRx Silent Auction. Items auctioned off included a basketball autographed by Illinois Coach Bruce Weber, a cherry mallet face-balanced putter, a Coach Gene Keady autographed basketball, a Coach Joe Tiller autographed football, a foursome on the Kampen course, a genuine Indianapolis Colts helmet, a tailgate party package, a team-signed Colts football, a dinner with Illinois Coach Bruce Weber, golf lessons, premium tickets to an Indianapolis Colts football game, and two Indiana Pacers suite tickets. Some of the golf winners of the day were Men's Longest Putt: Jack Beilfuss (BSPHAR '52); Men's Longest Drive: Dave Ewbank (BSPHAR '78); Men's Closet to the Pin: Scott Glosner (BSPHAR '89); and both Ladies' Closest to the Pin and Ladies' Longest Putt: Tina Root. The winning team, who walked away with a set of cherry mallet face-balanced putters was Bob Bennett (Professor of Pharmacy Practice), Joel Brooks, Jamie Keiler, and Tom Howell. Special thanks go to our dedicated Pharmacy Alumni Association volunteers, without whom the day would not have been possible, to the Professional Partners and the corporate and individual sponsors who really made things happen, and particularly to The Chao Center for Industrial Pharmacy & Contract Manufacturing, primary sponsor of this year's event, and Dr. Craig Davis, the Chao Center Director, who also served as emcee for the day.
