Purdue Day at the Indiana State Fair- August 17, 2005
|
Purdue Day at the Indiana State Fair was held on August 17, 2005 at the Indiana State Fairgrounds in Indianapolis. It was the right place to be if you wanted to see the world's largest pig; hear the Purdue Band play the School Song; taste some elephant ears or a lemon shakeup; feel the wind in your hair on the amusement rides; or smell an amazing combination of barbequed pork, grilled tenderloins, tacos, pizza and corn dogs! Plus from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. the Fairgrounds was ablaze in black and gold-shirted people singing the praises of Purdue via interactive displays and exhibits. The School of Pharmacy held its first-ever Purdue Live! Main Street Stage performance from 9:30 to 10:30, with Dr. John Pezzuto introducing the production. Dr. Bruce Carlstedt, with the help of Pharmacy students Alicia Burke, Mark Brown, and Lynn Tenbarge, presented The Top Ten Reasons to be a Pharmacist. Dr. Steve Abel led a lively discussion on A Patient's Guide to Medication Use, the highlight of which was the reminder that when you flush your outdated medication down the toilet, remember not to flush the vial, too! The program wrapped up with a film on the Vial of Life program which is being promoted by the ASP students in the School of Pharmacy as part of their outreach program. For further information on the Vial of Life, see http://www.vialoflife.com/. Following the stage presentation, faculty, staff and student volunteers staffed a booth on Main Street at the Fair, distributing copies of A Patient's Guide to Medication Use, and demonstrating and dispensing Vials of Life to hundreds of interested passersby. Thanks to all of our hard-working volunteers, and to Wishard Hospital for donating empty vials for the Vial of Life program. Hope to see you next year for Purdue Day at the Indiana State Fair!
