The Spring 2006 School of Pharmacy Dean's Joint Advisory Council Meeting was held in the Purdue Memorial Union/Stewart Center on Friday, May 19, 2006. Approximately thirty council members attended, along with numerous faculty and staff.

The morning began with breakfast and welcome and the school and university update by Dr. Pezzuto. This was followed by the Professional Program/BSPS Update by Dr. Mason, and the Chao Center update by Gerald Thomas, business development/project manager of The Chao Center. Chris Smith, Director of Development, reported on the various privately-funded projects now underway in the School, including the CVS/pharmacy-sponsored renovation of the Pharmacy Practice Laboratory.

There were two morning breakout sessions: Dr. Ken Morris, associate head, Department of Industrial and Physical Pharmacy, facilitated the Industrial Track. The topic was Pharmaceutical Engineering: Participation in the emerging Engineering led M.S. program, interacting between the program and the BSPS, modification of the BSPS curriculum.

Dr. Steve Scott, associate head, Department of Pharmacy Practice, facilitated the Pharmacy Practice Track: Enhancing Professionalism in Our Students from Orientation to Graduation.

Following breakout group reports, the council members, faculty and staff attending enjoyed a lunch buffet with speaker Mr. Brock Spack, defensive coordinator, Purdue Varsity Football. Mr. Spack's presentation focused on how, as a person with asthma, his life has been enhanced greatly by the research and developments of the pharmaceutical industry. He also fielded questions about the coming year's football team and their chances to play on January 1, 2007.

Afternoon breakout sessions included "The Modernization of Industrial Lab Equipment" facilitated by Dr. Ken Morris, and "Contemporary Ethical vs. Legal Issues in Pharmacy Practice" facilitated by Dr. Matt Murawski, associate professor of pharmacy administration.

Breakout group reports were followed by an update on the Kenya Program by Dr. Ellen Schellhase, assistant professor of Pharmacy Practice and the open forum and closing comments by Dr. Pezzuto.
