White Coat Ceremony - September 17, 2006

Purdue University's School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences held its annual White Coat Ceremony on Sunday, September 17, 2006 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. in the North and South Ballrooms of the Purdue Memorial Union. A dessert reception, complete with string quarter accompaniment, opened the ceremonies. This event, established in 2000, welcomes each new pharmacy student accepted into the professional program by presenting them with a white lab coat. At the close of the ceremony the class recites together the Oath of a Pharmacist.

Mrs. Catherine J. Simmons (BS '98) District Pharmacy Supervisor, Indianapolis Central District of Walgreens Company (sponsors of the event) was the Keynote Speaker. As a relatively recent graduate herself, she was very proud and pleased at the quality of the students present. She encouraged them to persevere toward their goal of becoming a professional pharmacist.

Dr. Holly Mason, Interim Dean and Associate Dean of Academic Programs, introduced Dr. Steven A. Scott (BS '76, DPHAR '78), Associate Professor of Clinical Pharmacy, who then introduced the Class of 2010. Several other faculty and staff were on hand to congratulate the class, including James Tisdale, Professor of Pharmacy Practice; Christopher Scott, Clinical Assistant Professor of Pharmacy Practice; Susan White, Director, Purdue University Pharmacy; Mary Geiger, Assistant Director, Purdue University Pharmacy; and Kimberly Plake, Assistant Professor of Pharmacy Practice.

After the students took the Oath of a Pharmacist they adjourned to the congratulations and flashing cameras of their families and friends.
