Greenhouse Demolition - September 28 - October 18, 2006

A moment of silence, please, in memory of the recently-demolished greenhouse on the side of the Heine Pharmacy Building. For many years, the greenhouse served as a source of herbal plants used in the study of pharmacognosy. As the focus of pharmaceutical studies shifted, the greenhouse was sadly neglected and had become an attractive nuisance for passersby. The glass panels had to be replaced on a regular basis although the greenhouse itself was no longer in use. In October of 2006, the greenhouse was demolished to make way for a new landscaping project.

How to remove a greenhouse: Step 1 - put on your safety harness.   Step 2 - Climb onto a cargo lifter.

Step 3 - Go up, up, up...   ...and over the greenhouse.

Step 4 - Knock out the glass with a hammer.   They did a smashing good job!

After the glass was all gone,   the secondary frames were disassembled.

After the secondaries were gone,   the main frames were removed.

After all the frames were down   and all of the pieces were hauled away

the foundation was demolished   and the hole filled up with dirt.
