CVS Lab Dedication - October 26, 2006

Purdue University's pharmacy program filled its latest prescription on Thursday, October 26 with the dedication of the new CVS Pharmacy Practice Lab. The 1,968-square-foot practice lab, located in the Robert E. Heine Pharmacy Building, is almost twice the size of the previous practice lab and offers the latest educational technology. The setting replicates that of current professional pharmacy practice labs. "With the addition of the new CVS Pharmacy Practice Laboratory, Purdue's stellar pharmacy program continues to address and anticipate the needs of students, their future employers and future patients," said Purdue President Martin C. Jischke. "Purdue students will have access to the best resources available to practice and master their skills before entering the work force." You can read the entire University News Service article about the dedication, or view pictures and details of the project, including a time-lapse video of the construction.

Dean Svensson and Mr. Wheeler are delighted with some of the new technology in the lab, and even more excited that even they were able to make it work.   Dr. Steve Abel (BS '76, PharmD '78), Head, Department of Pharmacy Practice, details some of the highlights of the newly-renovated CVS/pharmacy Practice Laboratory.

Dr. Kimberly Plake (MS '94, PhD '99) Assistant Professor of Pharmacy Practice and project manager for the lab renovations, listens as Dr. Craig Svensson, Dean, College of Pharmacy, Nursing, and Health Sciences, congratulates her on a job well done.   Ms. Papatya Tankut, Vice President of Professional Services for CVS Corporation (left) and Mr. Hanley Wheeler, Senior Vice President of Operations for CVS Corporation (right) listen intently as Dean Svensson elaborates on the improvements to the pharmacy practice laboratory made possible by the generosity of CVS and other donors.

Robert A. Brown (BS '51) and Chip Rutledge, Vice President for Research and former dean, discuss the opportunities that the significant improvements to lab will offer pharmacy students.   Pharmacy students enjoy the dedication presentation.

Student presenters Laura Smith (fourth professional year pharmacy student), and Mark Brown (fourth professional year pharmacy student), JeanAnne (BS '61) and James Chaney, and Murray Blackwelder, Senior Vice President for Advancement, pose for the dedication photo.   As pharmacy students discuss the enhancements to the laboratory, a display screen in the background runs a pictorial history of the renovation project.

Steve Scott (BS '76, PharmD '78) Associate Head, Department of Pharmacy Practice, explains some of the advantages of the enhancements to the lab to Bernie (BS '66) and Judy (BS '66) Williams.   CVS/pharmacy and all other donors who generously contributed to the pharmacy practice laboratory renovation project are recognized on a large plaque on the wall opposite the lab.
