Janet Woodcock, the chief medical officer of the Food and Drug Administration, visited the Purdue campus on February 8th and 9th as the lecturer for the annual Varro E. Tyler Distinguished Lectureship. The lecture series is named in honor of the late Varro E. Tyler, Purdue's Lilly Distinguished Professor of Pharmacognosy in the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences and former dean and executive vice president for academic affairs for the university. Tyler was known for his contributions to the advancement of pharmacology and authored more than 240 scientific articles, 16 books and a major textbook on pharmacognosy.
Dr. Woodcock presented two lectures titled "Current Direction in Drug Regulation," and "Advancing the Science of Pharmaceutical Quality". She was an excellent speaker and the Pharmacy faculty, staff and students enjoyed their interaction with her.
