Donor Brunch - October 17, 2009

Saturday October 17, 2009 was a day of days for the school of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences.

The Donor Brunch is one of our favorite events, because it gives us a chance to thank you personally for your loyalty and dedication to our faculty, staff, and particularly our students. Your generosity provides the extra impetus many of our students need to make it over the hurdles of college life. The Brunch also gives donors an opportunity to meet and visit with the students who are the beneficiaries of their generosity.

Our keynote speaker this year was Mr. Louis E. LaRowe, BS '69, Executive Director, Manufacturing & Packaging, at Boehringer Ingelheim Roxane, Inc. Lou's speech moved several members of the audience as he recalled his days at Purdue and how critical scholarship support had been for him. Because of the backing he received while a student, he feels a strong commitment to continue the tradition by supporting scholarships himself. He encouraged all those present to keep up the habit of reaching back to help others move forward.

Tiffany Pon, Purdue Student Society of Health System Pharmacists, echoed Mr. LaRowe's comments, but from the student perspective. The scholarships she has received while at Purdue have made the difference between her being able to continue her studies here or being forced to drop out. She thanked all the donors present on behalf of her fellow students for the generous gifts they provide.

Whether or not you were able to join us for the Brunch, I want thank you all for your continuing support of the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. If you are ever scheduling a visit on or near campus, please let me know and I will make every effort to arrange a tour of the School and an opportunity for you to meet some of our exemplary students.

Regards,

Linda A. Yelton
