The Class of 2010 gathered in the East/West Faculty Lounges on Friday, April 30, 2010 to congratulate each other and be congratulated by the guest speakers on a very successful Class Gift Campaign. At the time of the luncheon, the class had a 44% participation rate, the highest ever going into the final days of the Campaign. With just three weeks to go, will they top the previous class record of 51%? Time will tell!
The graduating class of the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences annually participates in raising awareness of the importance of giving back to the School through the Class Gift Challenge. The goal of the Class Gift Challenge is to instill the idea and impact of philanthropy in the minds of the graduating class, encouraging them to stay connected to the University after graduation. Matching their gifts with the Schools needs emphasizes the significance of giving back, and helps ensure that the same resources and opportunities students enjoyed during their years at Purdue will exist for future generations.
Each year a very dedicated Pharmacy alumnus steps forward to match the Class Gift for that year. Ms. Shirley L. Paddock, (BS '90) is this year's matching gift donor. With her match of up to $5,000 and the corporate matching gift from her employer, Eli Lilly, this class stands to be able to raise $15,000! Ms. Paddock presented her thoughts on the importance of giving back in appreciation for the education she received at Purdue.
This year's luncheon was generously sponsored by Supervalu Incorporated, and Mr. Steve Keen, (BS '81), Pharmacist Recruiter from Supervalu, attended to share his congratulations with the class, reminding them to stay connected to Purdue and the School of Pharmacy. Mr. Chad Johnson, Chief Operations Officer, Purdue Alumni Association, was also on hand to offer his congratulations to the class. Each new graduate will receive a one-year free membership to the PAA.
Dean Svensson encouraged all the candidates to remember to reach back and help those coming up behind them by staying engaged with the School and supporting future pharmacists and scientists to come.
