Graduate Student Awards Symposium

The annual School of Pharmacy Graduate Student Awards Symposium took place at 3:30 PM in the Lawson Building. A large number of faculty and graduate students attended. The ceremony began with the awarding of the Kienly Awards for outstanding graduate student teaching, which were followed by the Jenkins/Knevel Awards for excellence in research.

The Albert and Anna Kienly Awards
for Outstanding Teaching by a Graduate Student

The Kienly Awards have been endowed since 1976 by gifts from Dr. Albert V. Kienly, Jr. of the Class of 1940, as well as by an anonymous faculty gift in memory of Dr. Kienly's father and mother. Dr. Kienly's father graduated from the Purdue University School of Pharmacy in 1901.
 
  
  Dr. Robert Geahlen, Associate Dean for Graduate Programs, opened the symposium with the history of the awards.

The Jenkins-Knevel Awards for Excellence in Research

The Jenkins-Knevel Awards for Excellence in Research are supported by Dr. Serena Ford, daughter of Dr. Glenn L. Jenkins, Dean of the School of Pharmacy from 1941 to 1966, and other donors. They are given in honor of Dr. Jenkins and Dr. Adelbert M. Knevel (PhD '57), professor emeritus, School of Pharmacy. Each winner presented a brief talk about their award-winning research.
 
  
Zohreh Amoozgar, Jenkins-Knevel award winner for Industrial and Physical Pharmacy   Zohreh spoke on "Bioadhesive Nanoparticles for Tumor Targeted Drug Delivery".

Jaimeen's topic was "A convergent approach to Icmt inhibitor design: Merging bioisosteric replacements and computational tools for guided small molecule development"   Jaimeen and Dr. Geahlen
 
  
Ahmed N. Mohamed, Jenkins-Knevel award winner from Pharmacy Practice.   Ahmed talked about "Population Pharmacokinetic Analysis of Gentamicin Removal during Short Daily Hemodialysis (SDHD)".
