Multicultural Programs - Accomplishments

  • Corporate support has increased, and Albertson's, Inc./Osco Drug made a $150,000 pledge over a three year period to further the advancement of Multicultural Programs.
  • Underrepresented minority students entering as beginner or transfer students into Pre-Pharmacy for the years 1992-1998 total 72% who have graduated with Purdue degrees.
  • The program academic retention initiatives were in place beginning with the 1993-1994 academic year. The retention of entering underrepresented minority students who participate in Multicultural Programs after one year is 98%.
  • Eighty-five percent of the underrepresented minority students admitted to the professional program of study for Fall 2004 completed Pre-Pharmacy requirements at the West Lafayette campus.
  • For the last 5 years, 100% of students admitted to the professional program of study who completed Pre-Pharmacy experience at Purdue, West Lafayette campus, have earned pharmacy degrees or continue in the program.
  • 92% of the students of African or Hispanic/Latino heritage admitted to the professional program of study have earned degrees.

The chart above illustrates the number of students of African or Hispanic/Latino heritage who have earned degrees from the School of Pharmacy. The number for 2001 to present includes those who graduated in May, 2005. In 2002, the School awarded the largest number (18) of degrees to students in the target population.
