Day on Campus is a University-wide freshman registration event. Attendance is not mandatory, but is highly encouraged. Pharmacy Day On Campus is June 10-27, 2008, and provides opportunities for:
Meeting your academic advisor
Registration for Fall classes
Introduction/review of the pre-pharmacy program of study
One-on-one orientation to Purdue University and the School of Pharmacy
Taking advanced placement tests in foreign language or math, if you desire
Please arrive at 7:45 AM (EDT) so that we may begin promptly at 8 AM. We will begin in Room 172 of the Robert Heine Pharmacy Building (RHPH). You will receive a parking permit in the mailing from the Office of Admissions that will allow you to park in any of the garages. Please note guest parking is not allowed in surface lots, only in garages. See the "visit us" page for directions.
Purdue University and the School of Pharmacy value diversity and understand the benefit for all, especially students, to interact with people from different backgrounds and cultures. Multicultural Programs' mission is to enhance diversity within the School and to provide experiences for students, especially for the federally impacted populations, which will aid their transition to and graduation from Purdue University. Ms. Jackie B. Jimerson serves as Director of Multicultural Programs; you may contact her at jjimerso@purdue.edu.
We look forward to meeting you and your family. Please pay close attention to the checklist below. Before your visit, you should review algebra and trigonometry. All students are requested to complete the online Calculus Readiness Test (CRT) and the Algebra Readiness Test (ART) before coming for Day on Campus. Additionally, a mandatory algebra/trigonometry diagnostic test will be administered to all students during the morning school session. Scores from all three tests are diagnostic in nature and will help to determine your readiness for enrollment in chemistry and calculus for the first semester. A non-graphing calculator may be used during these diagnostic exams, and you are encouraged to bring one to campus during your visit.
Begin your orientation to campus now by establishing your Purdue Identifier (PUID) number and online student account before you attend Day on Campus. These will allow you to access essential information and services, some of which you can use or may need before you attend the Day on Campus orientation program. For example, you will be required to take online math tests before attending your Day on Campus. You can only access these tests with your established Purdue career account information. Visit http://www.purdue.edu/helpdesk/ and click on "Admitted Students" in the top menu bar to access instructions about how to set up your online student account. Through this process you'll confirm your PUID, Purdue email address, online username/career account, and online password. Commit this information to memory. It will provide access to online information and services throughout your Purdue career.
Reserve a date for Day on Campus by returning the reservation form that you received from the Office of Admissions. Day on Campus is a one-day event occurring from Tuesday, June 10 through Friday, June 27.
Complete the Student Information Form (SIF), and mail it to: OSS, 575 Stadium Mall Drive, West Lafayette, IN 47907-2091 by Monday, June 4. (Note that you should have received this form in the mail.) This form is very helpful to us as we work with you to choose appropriate courses. If you are interested in establishing advanced credit in math and/or foreign language, you should read the information sheet about this procedure. If you intend to take advanced placement exams, a calculator (non-graphing, non-programmable) and picture ID (e.g. drivers' license) are needed when you come for your Day on Campus.
Prepare for the Online Calculus Readiness Test (CRT) and the Online Algebra Readiness Test (ART). Appropriate placement in math and chemistry courses are essential for a successful first semester. Your performance on these tests determines your readiness for enrollment in chemistry and calculus. All students are required to take the CRT and ART to judge current math skills. Practice CRT and ART tests can be found at http://www.math.purdue.edu/crt/ and http://www.math.purdue.edu/art/, respectively. Once logged in, follow the instructions to take the practice test. Students may access the sample tests as many times as they wish, and no scores will be recorded. However, there is only one set of questions on each sample test.
Take the Online Calculus Readiness Test (CRT) and the Algebra Readiness Test (ART). Students will be required to complete both readiness tests. The websites for the online tests are http://www.math.purdue.edu/crt/ and http://www.math.purdue.edu/art/. These tests will help us to evaluate your math needs. There are 21 questions on the test, and 19 questions on the ART. Students will have 45 minutes to complete the CRT and 30 minutes to complete the ART. The CRT may be taken up to three times, while the ART may be taken only once. You will need to complete the Calculus Readiness Test and the Algebra Readiness Test by noon the day BEFORE your scheduled Day on Campus. If you do not score as well as you hoped on the online test, you will have another opportunity to demonstrate your skills during a two-hour advanced credit exam when you are here for your Day on Campus.
Review the study guide for the algebra/trigonometry (A-T) diagnostic test. This test covers algebra and trigonometry and must be completed during the morning session of your Day on Campus visit regardless of previous math experience and advanced placement exams. Students will have 30 minutes to complete the test and a minimum of 70% is considered a passing score. Your placement in mathematics will also determine your placement in chemistry. The web address for the study guides is: http://www.math.purdue.edu/undergrad/credit/undergrad/ Reviewing the MA 153, MA 154, and/or MA 159 study guides will provide extended preparation. The study guides for Algebra and/or Trigonometry are appropriate material for preparation for the CRT, ART and the A-T test.
The Purdue Advanced Credit Examinations are given during Day On Campus and just before classes begin. A description of the subject matter to be covered in each exam, test dates and locations, procedures to follow in applying to take the tests, and general instructions will be provided if you qualify. Questions regarding advanced credit should be directed to the Office of Student Services staff. Additionally, because the College Board AP exam scores will not be available until after the conclusion of Day On Campus, consider taking Purdue's version for prompt results and placement.
