Jeff Hatfield (BS 1981)
President and CEO
Jeff Hatfield is President, Chief Executive Officer, and a member of the Board of Directors of Vitae Pharmaceuticals. Since becoming CEO, he has successfully transitioned Vitae from a novel technology start-up to a thriving clinical stage, product-focused discovery and development engine with a robust pipeline. Mr. Hatfield has focused the company on high value therapeutic areas with significant global unmet medical needs, including disclosed programs in autoimmune disorders, atopic dermatitis, and Alzheimer’s disease. Vitae recently entered into a definitive agreement to be acquired by Allergan in an all-cash transaction for $639 million.
Prior to joining Vitae Pharmaceuticals, Mr. Hatfield worked at Bristol-Myers Squibb in a variety of executive positions, including: Senior Vice President of BMS’s Immunology and Virology Divisions, where he was responsible for all aspects of the $1 billion annual revenue business; President and General Manager, Canada; and, Vice President, U.S. Managed Health Care.
Mr. Hatfield holds an MBA from The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, and a bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy from Purdue University, where he is a Distinguished Alumnus. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO), serving on the Executive Committee of the Emerging Company Section. He was a board member of Ambit Biosciences before its acquisition by Daiichi-Sankyo. He is a member of the Advisory Committees for the Purdue College of Pharmacy, Drexel University’s LeBow College of Business, and the Chapman-KGI School of BioPharmacy.
