Keith Carter, M.D., is the Lillian C. O'Brien and Dr. C.S. O'Brien Chair in Ophthalmology and Professor of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences at the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine and University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.
He is past President of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and past President of the Association of University Professors of Ophthalmology.
Dr. Carter earned a Bachelor of Science degree in pharmacy from Purdue University and a medical degree from Indiana University. He completed an ophthalmology residency at the University of Michigan, and a fellowship in oculoplastics and orbital surgery at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. He has been a faculty member at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics since 1988 and was appointed Chairman of the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences on January 1, 2006. He is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and is a fellow of the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and American College of Surgeons. He has trained 20 oculoplastic fellows. Dr. Carter specializes in oculoplastic surgery and has conducted an extremely busy clinical and surgical practice for the past 28 years. He has been listed as one of America’s Top Doctors numerous years.
