Dr. Jamie L. Shelly and Donald Joseph (Joey) Woodyard have been extremely fortunate to spend their careers in medical and pharmacy education. Jamie is a Clinical Assistant Professor and Director of Professional Program Laboratories at Purdue College of Pharmacy, where she graduated with her PharmD in 2011. Her husband, Joey is the Vice Chairman for Emergency Medicine at the IU School of Medicine and Indiana University Health Physicians and is an alumna of UNC-Chapel Hill.

They are both wholly committed to educating the best and brightest future healthcare providers. “We are blessed to have worked with so many students over the years who have gone on to provide healthcare to hundreds of thousands of patients,” they said. “There are many ways to have a positive impact on the lives of patients, but we cannot think of a better opportunity to have a far reaching, significant impact on patient care than to educate and mentor future practitioners.”

Since both Jamie and Joey work in academia, they see first-hand the ever-rising costs of higher education, ongoing changes in the landscape and the demand for pharmacists. All of these reasons make it increasingly important to recruit and train exceptional students as career academicians.

This Purdue Day of Giving, Jamie and Joey Woodyard have decided to establish the Dr. Jamie Woodyard Scholarship. “Our scholarship will focus on helping pharmacy students who are pursuing careers in academia and will benefit pharmacy education for generations to come,” said Jamie and Joey.

Thank you to Jamie and Joey Woodyard for taking a Giant Leap during this year’s Purdue Day of Giving.
