This Purdue Day of Giving, the Purdue College of Pharmacy is excited to announce a leadership gift from Judi Jacobi and Jim Mowry.

The Jacobi-Mowry Pharmacy Practice Scholarship is designed to recognize the important work of pharmacists who provide direct patient care with comprehensive medication management. Jim and Judi know firsthand the difference pharmacists can have on the lives of patients, especially if they are equipped with the skills needed to be leaders in medication management. This is why Judi and Jim are establishing a scholarship for the support of P3 students who are pursuing practice in hospital or clinic-based pharmacy.

This scholarship endowment is designed to recognize the important work of pharmacists who provide direct patient care with comprehensive medication management. While external recognition of these important roles is evolving, pharmacists have already shown that they can significantly impact patients and health outcomes when providing direct patient care.

“Supporting students who are pursuing this training is a way to pay back Purdue for the many years of personal and professional support,” said Judi.

“It is exciting to provide support for the 2021 Day of Giving with the knowledge that strong alumni support will garner more attention for the new and existing programs and lend support for the new Pharmacy and Nursing Education Building,” said Jim.

Through their unique and groundbreaking careers, both Jim and Judi have received support from many professional colleagues, faculty, and organizations. They believe in the future of pharmacy and the impact pharmacists have when serving in direct patient care roles.

“We are grateful when our alumni choose to leave a legacy by creating planned gifts that impact future generations of students. These gifts can be transformative to our faculty, staff, and students providing support in perpetuity. Such estate gifts can be creative means for our alumni and friends to make high impact gifts to the College,” said Dean Eric Barker.

Judi received her Bachelor’s degree in 1979 from the Purdue College of Pharmacy. She then attended the University of Minnesota where she received her PharmD degree and then completed a residency in critical care pharmacy at The Ohio State University. She practiced in critical care for more than 37 years. Most recently, she was the Program Director for a Critical Care Residency at Indiana University Health Methodist Hospital where she trained 29 pharmacists to become outstanding critical care specialists. Jim is a 1977 graduate of the College of Pharmacy at the University of Illinois Chicago and received his PharmD at the University of Minnesota. He completed his toxicology residency training at the University of Tennessee. Jim was the Director of the Indiana Poison Center for over 38 years. A recognized leader in toxicology and poison control, Jim served in leadership roles for multiple national organizations and has been recognized for his contributions to the field by numerous groups. The American Academy of Clinical Toxicology has honored him with its Distinguished Service Award and elected him a Fellow of the Academy.
