Career Highlights
  • Designed and implemented the first validated computer system to automate the drug labeling process for investigational randomized clinical trials for the Upjohn Company
  • Established the Clinical Compliance Function for Glaxo Inc, which became GlaxoWellcome and GlaxoSmithKline
  • Designed and implemented a bespoke computer system that supported the management, scheduling and reporting of the Global Good Clinical Practice, Good Laboratory Practice and Computer System Validation Practice function and departments for GlaxoWellcome. 
  • Long-standing former Editorial Board Member for initial Thompson publishing reference manual on standards for Clinical Research and Good Clinical Practice
  • Established the Clinical and Bioanalytical Quality function that includes oversight of all (GCP/GLP/GVP/ Bioanalytical) functions at Mylan/Viatris that support the Global R&D functions

Charlie Mueller is the Global Head of Clinical and Bioanalytical Quality at Viatris and is responsible for the Quality Management System that provides oversight for all R&D disciplines.  He has extensive experience in GCP Compliance and Quality Management along with experience in Clinical Research, Formulation Development, and GCP Quality Systems.  He was instrumental in establishing the initial Clinical QA functions at GlaxoSmithKline where he worked for 27 years and has extensive management experience in implementing Global GXP functions. Charlie was a long-standing member of the editorial board at Thompson Publishing supporting their GCP publications. In addition to his professional career within the pharmaceutical industry, he is a registered Pharmacist having practiced for over 20 years.

Originally from Pittsburgh, PA, Charlie is a proud alumnus of Purdue University (BS 81) and is an avid Purdue sports fan. In addition, he has been a middle school athletic director and coach for soccer, basketball and lacrosse. He was a founding member of the initial middle school lacrosse league in Raleigh, NC.

Charlie and his wife Pam (BA 80) have four children; Joseph, Andrew, Patrick, and Maggie and have lived in Raleigh NC for the last 35 years.
