Gregory D. Wasson (BS 1981)
Co-Founder and President, Wasson Enterprise
Former President and Chief Executive Officer, Walgreen Boots Alliance
"I can't stress enough the value of my education, whose core philosophies have always helped guide me. Advancing the role of community pharmacy in healthcare was always my center of gravity, and what I gained at Purdue took me far beyond pharmacy and into the broader healthcare industry."
- Being recommended for and landing one of Walgreens first pharmacy services internships by Dr. Robert Evanson while attending Purdue in 1980
- Starting my career managing four Walgreens stores over five years in Houston, Texas (1981-1986)
- Opening Walgreens Las Vegas market from scratch
- Leading Walgreens Health Services division (2001-2007), including its managed-care business that incorporated its PBM, specialty pharmacy, mail service, and home care division
- As CEO (2009-2015), transforming the company strategy to include advancing the role of community pharmacy in the U.S. and thus solidly positioning the company (and the pharmacy profession) as a healthcare provider, culminating with the company’s global merger with Alliance Boots (2015), and well-positioning Walgreens for the next century
Greg Wasson is the Co-Founder and President of Wasson Enterprise, a family business in Chicago that leverages family member skill sets to create new businesses, invests in early stage startups, and advises current businesses.
