Angela Patel currently serves as Associate Vice President in Financial Planning and Analysis at Merck. She leads the finance teams in the Global Vaccines and Biologics Operating Units within Merck’s Manufacturing Division.
Angela is a graduate of the Purdue University College of Pharmacy and started her career in retail pharmacy with Kroger in Indianapolis, Indiana. Angela went on to complete her MBA at the Tepper School of Business at Carnegie Mellon University.
Upon completing her MBA, Angela joined Merck where she has held roles of increasing responsibility in the finance organization for nearly 25 years with a key focus on supporting business strategic decisions in the global commercial space as well as more recently in the global manufacturing space.
A key contribution in Angela’s current role was her involvement in the acquisition of a Biologics Drug Substance manufacturing facility in Dunboyne, Ireland. The facility is a key enabler of clinical and commercial supply for several programs within the Merck pipeline.
During Angela’s career in the commercial space, she had full responsibility for Merck’s global vaccines business including brands such as Gardasil and the pediatric portfolio of vaccines (MMR, Varivax, ProQuad, RotaTeq). She subsequently had global responsibility for Merck’s >$20B Primary Care and Hospital & Specialty Care business before transitioning into the manufacturing side of the business.
In addition to supporting the business, Angela leads Merck Finance’s North American Talent Committee which concentrates on developing talent and enabling movement within the finance organization. She also serves as the MBA recruiting captain for the Tepper School of Business at Carnegie Mellon University and focuses on attracting MBA graduates and interns into the Merck Finance organization.
When Angela is not at work, she enjoys spending most of her free time watching her twin daughters’ sporting activities as well as participating in family outdoor activities such as biking, golfing and hiking
