What IF We Went Beyond the Disease Model of Addiction?
We welcome to campus, Sally Satel, Psychiatrist, Lecturer at Yale University School of Medicine, the W. H. Brady Fellow at the American Enterprise Institute
Description: What are the limitations of the disease model of addiction and what are its benefits? If we want to call addiction a disease, then we must ask what kind of a disease is it. Unless we challenge a medicalized vision of addiction, I argue, we will be hampered in understanding the roots of the opioid crisis and the implementation of remedies.
