Program Description

This program is designed in collaboration with selected ambulatory care clinics and community pharmacies in the Midwest region to challenge students who are interested in ambulatory care practice or ambulatory care residency programs post-graduation. The program will consist of 3 consecutive APPE rotations for each student at the designated practice site. Typical rotations may include but are not limited to: Community Pharmacy APPE, Community Pharmacy Specialty (Women’s Heath, Compounding, Hormone Replacement, etc.), Ambulatory Care Clinics, and Ambulatory Care Administration.  Students will be selected to complete the rotation series during the months of May-December in order to be prepared for the ASHP Clinical Midyear Meeting in December and residency interviews in January and February. Note: Students are not guaranteed a residency solely based on the completion of this program.

Program Goals

  • Allow students to become familiar with a single practice site and increase the amount of time allocated to patient care and clinical responsibilities in the outpatient setting
  • Provide student with continual and constructive feedback between rotations
  • Present students with the opportunity to work with one of their assigned preceptors on a research project
  • Ensure core patient care rotations are scheduled prior to interviewing for a residency program

Selection of Student(s)

Interested students will complete an application for the Ambulatory Care Track Program and submit this along with a current CV, letter of intent, and ranking of desired track programs. This application will be forwarded to the designated contact person at the practice site. Ambulatory care practice sites will then be able to rank the students they are interested in precepting for this program.
