Program Description

This program is designed in collaboration with selected hospitals and health care systems in the Midwest region to challenge students who are interested in hospital practice or inpatient residency programs post-graduation. The program will consist of 5 consecutive APPE rotations for each student at the designated institution. Typical rotations may include but are not limited to: Hospital/Health Systems Pharmacy APPE, Adult Medicine, Critical Care, Drug Information, Infectious Diseases, Hematology/Oncology, Organ Transplant, Trauma, Administration, Pediatrics, Emergency Medicine etc. Students will be selected to complete the rotation series during the months of May-December in order to be prepared for the ASHP Clinical Midyear Meeting in December and residency interviews in January and February. Note: Students are not guaranteed a residency solely based on the completion of this program.

Program Goals

  • Allow students to become familiar with a single institution and increase the amount of time allocated to patient care and clinical responsibilities
  • Provide student with continual and constructive feedback between rotations
  • Present students with the opportunity to work with one of their assigned preceptors on a research project
  • Ensure core patient care rotations are scheduled prior to interviewing for a PGY-1 residency
